Grid Connected Solar
Davey Electrical and Solar offer both domestic and commercial grid connected solar systems with or without batteries (Hybrid) and systems that can have batteries added later. We are continually researching developments which enable us to offer our customers the most up to date suitable solutions.
Water Heaters
We supply and install solar electric water heating systems which can use excess solar power generated by a new or existing solar system. The solar system can be connected to any electric water heater including your existing system. We also offer a solar electric water heating system that does not require the electricity grid which also utilises a standard electric water heater.
Off-Grid Solar (Stand Alone)
Davey Electrical and Solar can offer the design and installation of stand alone off grid systems to suit customers demands. There are a large number of options available that can be installed. We believe that a standalone system should be designed for each individual customer.
Inverters
We use a number of high quality systems using Selectronic components (an Australian made world leading off grid inverter), SMA inverters (German made inverters) and other quality inverters. These inverters can be coupled with various storage battery systems. There are also a number of lower cost budget inverters available (Giant Power). These are suitable for holiday houses and installations where power supply is less critical. These systems are less versatile than higher quality systems however they may be a suitable option where cost is a determining factor.
Batteries
Currently lead acid batteries are the most suitable cost effective option. They have been tried and proven over a number of years and are still being developed to improve their effectiveness. Newer battery types can also be used, such as Lithium-Ion batteries, Flow batteries, Salt water batteries and numerous other battery technologies. All these batteries have positive and negative features when compared to the traditional lead acid batteries.
- Lithium-Ion Batteries have a longer life and are smaller. However they are generally more expensive and can be unsafe, requiring a high quality battery management system to charge and discharge safely. They also have a limited maximum discharge rate which makes unsuitable for high current short term loads such as motor starting.
- Salt Water (aquion) batteries are the safest and most recyclable batteries to date. They are easy to charge and discharge. They also have a relatively long life span. However they are still quite expensive and have limited maximum discharge and charge rates. Battery technology has been developing rapidly over the years and we are happy to discuss battery options with you.
Backup Generators
A backup petrol/diesel generator can be added to off-grid solar systems. It can be manual start or automatic and can be started by the inverter. This ensures continuous power supply that can reduce the size of batteries required and will ensure the maximum life from the batteries.
